THE most important factor in any successful invention is an attitude of 100% conviction, driven by an unshakable confidence that you are capable of breathing life into your idea, given the right circumstances. More often than not, you must come to the early realization that you MUST coordinate a team of various experts in order to flesh out the concept. The level and types of expertise that you will require will of course depend on the sophistication of the materials and fabrication technology involved in the research and development of your idea.
A basic rule of thumb is that professional, reputable engineers are a very tight-lipped bunch. Once you have earned the respect of targeted engineers in any given field ( for example, engineers associated with the National Research Council, or the provincial or state equivalent ), you will find that all correspondence will be treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality. Entering into a dialogue with professional engineers in the early stages is always a good idea because you will rapidly advance on your particular learning curve, and you can begin to create a working file of officially documented R&D progress.
I believe that one of the biggest setbacks that a lot of would-be inventor/developers suffer is that they are often too close to their idea, and lack the perspective that is needed to realistically evaluate the true potential ( or lack thereof ) of their brain-child. As well, the step-by-step process of getting the thing down on paper and then building a ‘working prototype’ ( or a sustained series of steadily progressive working prototypes! ) can be a daunting and sometimes expensive undertaking if you don’t bother to get organized at the outset by enlisting the help of local experts in the early conceptual stages. One of the big advantages of sharing your idea with people that you trust within your personal circle of friends early on is that you will save a lot of time ( and possibly money ) that will hopefully prevent you from getting discouraged. As well, you might want to listen carefully to the opinions of these people to see if your idea creates some genuine interest and excitement, or comes across as fairly lame. Always remember to poll anyone who is willing to give you honest feedback about your idea.
There are many ways to protect your Intellectual Property ( IP ) along the way. The first thing you MUST do is to create a drawing and a written description ( called an ‘abstract’ ) of your idea and get it ON PAPER. Remember, any Tom Dick or Harry can dream up an idea. But if it stays inside your skull or all you ever do is talk about it with your buddies over beers, it is fairly useless and basically a waste of time. If you are not willing to commit your idea to paper, then forget about it. Have another few beers and cook up yet another brilliant idea that you will probably never do anything further to advance. But as you know, this gets old very quickly and you will just start to bore everybody within earshot. Unless you hang out with a bunch of losers who are all talk and no action. Go hard, but don’t expect much.
Once you muster up the focus, overcome the natural tendency to procrastinate, and get serious enough to commit your great idea to paper, make sure your written abstract and diagram is clear and concise. If you lack the drafting skills needed to carry out this step there is more than likely a reputable artist in your community that will be happy to render his/her services to you. Ask the artist to sign a non-disclosure agreement before you reveal and explain your idea if you feel so inclined. My lawyer supplied me with one for me for $50.00. According to Zenon Dragan, president of the world-famous flying toy company DraganFly Innovations Inc., it all boils down to trust. Do you trust the people you are sharing your idea with while it is in its infancy? Incidentally, Zenon happily signed my non-disclosure agreement at our first meeting, and he has been absolutely instrumental along the way to developing my Skyaak invention.
Once you have documents in hand, visit a local Justice of the Peace and have your abstract and diagram notarized. Then get yourself to the post office. Send this early documentation to yourself and a few trusted friends/relatives as a REGISTERED LETTER. Do not open this notarized, registered letter once it arrives in your mailbox. Ask the other recipients to likewise refrain from opening their copies. Store your document in safe place, such as a fire-proof box or in a safety deposit box. It’s known as a ‘poor man’s patent’. This letter to yourself will be respected in any court as official documentation of your idea that legally establishes a time-line for your invention. And the price is right!
My patent attorney informed me very candidly that in my case ( with my Skyaak flying toy invention ) I would be much further ahead to invest the $12,000.00 or so dollars involved in a patent search and procurement in MARKETING the invention. This way, I would be known as the original inventor of this unique device. Any other future imitators would be seen as mere... imitators. We did a world-wide trademark search to be sure that the name was unique. I knew ahead of time that it was, because I had already registered the web-site domain as and I am continuously conducting Google searches to stay on top of it.
I was informed that a patent is only as good as your budget will permit you to protect it. If some big company gets a hold of your IP while it is on public display in the Patent Office Registry during the aprox. 18 month to two-year patent-granting process, they are basically free to make a slight change ( or not ) in the design and then go right ahead and mass manufacture it right under your nose. Good luck duking it out in court if the company has deep pockets for legal fees. You will probably lose. Typically, this kind of court battle can cost you up to a half-million dollars or more.

New Crop of Skyaak-ers
These guys agreed to meet me last night at the Cenataph Park in Watrous, SK., about a five-minute drive from my home at the Resort Village of Manitou Beach for a Skyaak work-up. I'm getting out the word that we are doing speed-trials this coming Friday evening at about 7:00. The Watrous detachment of the RCMP has very generously agreed to clock our throws with their portable RADAR GUN. I want to mention that these four guys all tried out Skyaak Model 3 for the first time. With a bit of coaching from yours truly, they caught on to the special techniques very quickly. I was quite impressed with their rapid progress.John mentioned that he thought this was "way better than hanging out playing video games. I'm building up a sweat!" He laughed. They all just loved the whole trip and to prove it, they went right ahead and bought their own unit so they could carry on with their Skyaak experience! So that is just great. Bodes very well for future marketing.

Procrastination is a double-edged habit. It deserves ourattention as well as our appreciation. The guilt we feelindicates that our procrastination serves as the destroyer ofdreams. However, when inspired by our connection to our values it also serves as the protector against wasted energy and futileactivities.Regardless of the type of procrastination, it's important to forgive yourself for doing the best you could do, given who youare and what you've learned up until this point. You are aDivine Child of God and the Truth is that it's possible thatyour sensible delays were inspired according to your Divinepath. On the other hand, feeling frustrated because your lack ofaction has postponed your good, is a message from your higherself that what you want requires your attention and you're notcurrently in alignment with its effortless fulfillment. Let me clarify the distinction between when we can appreciateour procrastination and when we should instead kick ourselves out of lethargy.
Once upon a time, I was stuck at the LAX airport with no moneyfor my cab or shuttle ride home to Newport Beach, about 50 milesSouth on Pacific Coast Hwy. I knew I had to get home and I hadneglected (procrastinated) to call friends to arrange a ride.Then, when my flight arrived, I was really ready to get home but for some reason I sort of meandered through the airport a bit aimlessly. I admit that because I didn't have the money for the fare, I procrastinated finding a ride for fear of having toride-and-run, known in other circles as dine-and-dash! I picked up my luggage, went to the gift shop, grabbed a bag of chips and truly walked around aimlessly for an indefinite amount of time.
Eventually, reality sunk in. I had to get home and even though I didn't have the money, I had to take the shuttle. My heart raced and my stomach ached thinking about how I wouldface the driver at my driveway. What would they do? Would they call the cops? Would they take a hot check so that I could coverit later?I made a decision as I got on that shuttle that would change my life forever. I decided to manifest a miracle. I didn't know how but I knew enough about the law of attraction to know that if I could put my attention on what I wanted while handing it over to God, that something would happen and I'd be all right. I got on the shuttle, smiled and said hello to the man and his daughter, the single woman, and the cute elderly couple. I immediately began to pray and apply my thoughts toward a magical solution and most importantly, every time I felt fear, I handed it over to God (the big U).
The father and daughter were the first to exit, and I began to really be persistent with ' handing it over' as the fear came in waves. I began to feel a sense of willingness to just handle whatever happened and found myself inspired to talk with the elderly couple. They were visiting from South Africa, had a daughter my age, loved to travel and meet new people. We laughed and continued to talk as I intermittently remembered my dilemma and handed it over again and again. The next stop was to be the hotel of my new friends but the gentleman told the driver to take me home first as they were enjoying my company. When we arrived, I turned to tell my new friends what a pleasure it was to meet them and they weretalking to each other. He turned to me and said, "My dear, we have enjoyed your company so much. Please allow us to pay for your fare."
With tears of delight and gratitude, what could I do but graciously accept?!?!?!? This was a turning point for me and my ability to succeed as a conscious creator. My procrastination in arranging a ride inspired my aimless wandering, which in turn was actually inspired by my higher intentions to succeed in truly understanding the law of attraction. I was inspired to procrastinate so that I would show up at the right time, in the right pick-up zone to meet my new friends and manifest a mini-miracle. This is inspired procrastination. Honor the truth that sometimes there is a higher purpose for Divinely Ordered procrastination. If you are running behind schedule, you miss your exit, you meander aimlessly, etc. allow yourself the flexibility to accept that somehow this too is perfect and in alignment with what you really want. On the other, deadly edge of the procrastinator's sword is the fear based procrastination that will inevitably delay and destroy your dreams. The following tools may be used to overcome this type of procrastination. You want to set yourself up for success by inspiring inspiration. Yes, using the law of attraction, you can actually INSPIRE INSPIRATION and ALIGNED ACTION.
If you postpone making the number of cold-calls necessary to succeed in your business, then you are procrastinating out of fear of success, fear of rejection, or fear of failure, for example. If you postpone working out and eating right, then you may be procrastinating out of a sense of futility, a feeling of worthlessness, or a fear of deprivation. If you feel guilt when you look at your procrastination tactics, then you are being called to move towards inspired action from your higher self.
To overcome procrastination here are a few practical tips: 1-Write it down! Write everything that you must/could/should/wantto do on paper; write out your high-level goals, the mini-milestones, the tasks involved, and the decisions that mustbe made to accomplish your goals. Then, prioritize and write down your reasons and your rewards. Too big a task, then only spend 10 minutes at a time until it's done. 2- Chunk it down! We procrastinate eating the Elephant because it's such a huge undertaking! Break it down into bite-sized morsels (on paper) and ask yourself what is ONE thing I can do today or right now. 3- Use a timer set for 15 minutes. You have 15 minutes to do ONE thing on your list - pick it and do it. If you are inspired to do more, great keep going. If not, that's okay too! 4- Just put on your shoes! Whatever goal you have in mind starts with the first inspired action. If you want to run 6miles, it begins with simply putting on your running shoes;nothing more, nothing less. When you are procrastinating -simply ask yourself what's the first task? Take action on the smallest incremental item on that task. You'll be amazed at how quickly you will be inspired to run once your running shoes are on. 5- Reward yourself - when you accomplish each project as well as each milestone. 6- Be human and give up perfectionism! Do it imperfect on purpose. If you procrastinate for fear of it being imperfect, get over it. An action performed imperfectly is superior to inaction performed perfectly.To overcome procrastination using the law of attraction, use both LOA (the law of attraction) and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). First, launch a living vision that paves the way for inspired action then upon awareness of doubts/fears use Emotional Freedom Technique to eliminate the blocks.
1 - Inspire Inspiration with a Living Vision Launch a living vision that addresses inspired, daily action. This is a one minute exercise that will change your life forever. If you will simply imagine yourself 'enjoying the act of taking daily consistent action towards your goal' in a consistent, daily living vision, eventually you will be inspired to do what you are imagining. Launching a Living Vision that you are taking daily, inspired action is a NO FAIL method! You will find yourself inspired with a passionate, connected sense of certainty and eagerness and you won't be able to stop yourself from taking action. It will work in one way or another every time. For example: If you want to be a prolific writer but you procrastinate or feel that you have writer's block, then launch the following living vision every day for 7 - 21 days and record what happens: "Yes! I am so enthusiastic about how easy it is for me to write every day. It's like the words just flow and most of the time I don't even know where they are coming from. The characters inspire me to new heights and the story line comes out of left field, jumping onto the computer screen with profound clarityand conviction. You know, I'm so grateful that it's always been this easy for me. I have always been able to simply sit down and allow the words to flow. I have to admit that I am a prolific writer and it's always been easy for me."
If you want to start exercising or be more consistent with your exercise routine, then launch the following living vision everyday for 7 to 21 days and see what happens: "I love exercising and staying focused on my goals. It's so easy for me to make this a priority. I always seem to have the energy to work out, not matter what time of the day it is. I also always seem to have the time as my life simply supports me in achieving my ideal health and fitness. I know others say they don't have the energy or time, and I just can't even imagine this being the case for me! I simply feel inspired to work-out regularly and the time happens easily as does having the energy within to accomplish my goals. There's something magical tha thappens when I put on my work-out gear or my gym shoes, it's like the angels practically carry me through my routine as soon as the gear touches my body. I simply put on my gear and I'm destined to a fabulous work-out that I absolutely love. And, I love the way I look and feel. I love and enjoy my body!" Launch your own living visions to inspire inspiration an daction. Allow your living vision to be a breathing, flowing,ever-evolving masterpiece of the activities that you want anddesire.
2 - Use EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to overcome procrastination. Formulate your own using the following EFTset-up phrases and positive implanting statements as prompts. Even though I procrastinate, I choose to love and accept myself anyway. Even though I am a habitual procrastinator, I lovingly support myself in taking inspired action. Even though I sabotage my success by procrastinating, nevertheless, I am pleasantly surprised at how easy it is for me to take action from this point forward. Even though I am afraid of success and therefore I procrastinate, nevertheless, I see myself easily taking inspired, consistent action. Even though I put off doing what I know must be done, I love, accept and forgive myself. And, I choose to easily take inspired, daily, consistent action. Even though I can't seem to stop procrastinating, nevertheless, I am so passionately excited that I am reliable and unswerving in my commitment to take action. Even though I hate the fact that I keep procrastinating and I don't know how to stop, nevertheless, I find myself easily focusing on the completion of small steps every day. Even though I feel terribly guilty for being such a procrastinator, I easily choose to chunk my projects down and just begin it now!
The law of attraction is our ally in manifesting success and prosperity as well as the little things that we want in life,such as successfully defeating procrastination. Remember that it's important to use your attention to manifest your big dreams as well as your daily desires.

Skyaak to get ‘Speeding Ticket’

The Skyaak Model 3 holds natural appeal and fascination to the athletically-inclined. If you’re not that great at throwing, or simply have no interest in a cool new throw and catch activity, then most likely Skyaak is NOT FOR YOU. On the other hand, it is very likely that you know several people who would just LOVE Skyaak, once they got their hands on one.
This project has so much incredible potential for exponential growth. I can feel the ‘Tipping Point’ is getting closer and closer. Here’s the thing: when I get a little flash of inspiration with the Skyaak project, and then go ahead and act on it, magical things happen. It’s like the universe is steadily showering the project with positive energy. But I have to animate it to some degree.
For instance: I came up with this idea a while back now to approach the local detachment of the RCMP and ask if they would be willing to do a series of RADAR SPEED CHECKS on Skyaak throws. Well, I made a call this afternoon to one of our Constables in Watrous, and whaddayano, the officer sounded very friendly towards the idea and is checking with his Staff Sargent to work out the logistics for next week. I have now checked with a couple of my fellow Skyaak enthusiasts and they are pumped to come along to a "Skyaak Throw off" that will be officially clocked by an RCMP officer with a radar gun. The officer will issue a reading for each throw, and when we’re done s/he will announce who’s throw is fastest.
How freakin’ cool is that?
I am going to do my absolute best to win the crown, and to hang onto it for as long as possible.
I have a few technical tricks up my sleeve that I will take full advantage of.
On August 12th the Resort Village of Manitou Beach is revitalizing the once-famous "Manitou Beach Relay Race", and now we are laying plans to host the first-ever "Skyaak Meet" in conjunction with this event- where you meet up with fellow Skyaak enthusiasts to show off your Skyaak SKILLS by entering various events to qualify to WIN CASH and SKYAAK PRODUCT PRIZES!
Some of the events will include: 1) Speed 2) Distance 3) Accuracy 4) Relay Races
My great friend Murray Gordon, who is a former Recreation Board Director, sat down with me a while ago to help pull together the rough draft that explains in detail the protocol for an exciting, organized 'Skyaak Book of Rules' (w. Diagrams, etc.). What we have done is actually visualize how Skyaak could become a multi-faceted competitive sport, as well as a social event that fosters technical/skills development. I must say that Mur gets big points for agreeing to drop in and help put the thing down on paper. Thanks to this constructive, focused energy, the concept is now out of our heads and a huge step closer to becoming reality. Isn’t that the whole idea of this family of projects? Like, that’s a no-brainer!
The next step is obviously to flesh this out. The Manitou Beach Relay will be a great testing ground for me and Mur’s ideas. Like a large-scale, living laboratory.

Sky-Aaction!
When you throw a Skyaak Model 3 with a half-decent delivery technique, you will be amazed at how well it performs for you! This is pure physical bliss we’re talking about here... just imagine what sublime pleasure you will get from watching your Skyaak soaring with unusually muscular strength as it actually corrects itself in mid-flight as a function of the amazing Skyaak Ring-Wing configuration. Do you think Bill Gurstelle of "Adventures from the Technology Underground" fame is fooling around when he says "Skyaak is incredibly cool!" Hey! That’s Bill’s quote! Imagine how thrilled I was when this famous technology-driven guru was so obviously pumped about my invention. What a rush!
At this precise moment in history I am merely a rather well-known professional artist. Last year I painted...um... about six huge murals in Western Canada that netted me about 50 grand all told. That might sound like peanuts to all you internet geniuses out there who are raking in the big bucks but frankly I don’t give a hoot. The GOOD NEWS is that my perennial success has allowed me to persevere with my long-time OBSESSION of getting Skyaak off the ground.
Yoo-Hoo... what if Bill is right when he says that he BELIEVES that "SKYAAK IS CANADA’S ANSWER TO THE FRISBEE"? What then? Well, I can only tell you as president of Skyaak Enterprises that that would indeed be a dream come true.
I am going to work out the bugs of getting a video published online with the Skyaak.com webmaster in the not-too-distant future. Then you can see for yourself what all the excitement is about. There’s nothing like seeing a flying device...flying.

Skyaak- Canada's Answer to the Frisbee
William Gurstelle, author of best-selling book "Adventures from the Technology Underground", recently wrote in his blog( nfttu.blogspot.com) :

Because I am a writer, I get to appear on national TV and radio every once in a while. Last month I did an interview with Radio Canada about Adventures from the Technology Underground. Fairly often, people contact me with questions and comments afterwards.A Canadian inventor named Michael Robert Gaudet came up with something called the Skyaak, which is something you toss around to your buddies for fun. He sent me a couple after hearing me on the radio and i have to say, they are incredibly cool. It's sort of like a pole -shaped frisbee. There are two conical surfaces on either side of a plastic pole. The conical surfaces act as wings and provide interesting aerodynamic properties to the thing as a whole.
I took one to a gym last night and threw it around between basketball games. It was a hit! I've not met Mr. Gaudet and have no financial interest in his product, but I do think it's very neat. I think it has more cachet than your regular old frisbee. Google skyaak if you're interested."

You know, those moments when you experience complete comprehension, total memory, or supreme brilliance. The moment when your problems have solutions, when your worries disappear, and you have "the" plan? I'm talking about your own personal Aha moment or the point in time when you realized that you were just on the cusp of something major? Just close your eyes and think of how good it feels in that moment. Wouldn't it be cool to be able to bottle those moments? To relive them and the feelings that they evoked in you? To be able to recreate that truly receptive period in your mind when everything comes together in total synchronicity for your inevitable success? Well there are various ways that you can.
When Delores was trying to spice up her love life she took to journaling. She started by listing the qualities of her dream man, what she wanted from the relationship, and the general time table. As she began to meet men she jotted down the details in her journal. Delores tweaked her ideal man list over time and ended up with exactly the man she was looking for. Her journal serves as a powerful reminder to her of what, or who you can make materialize as long as you don't skimp on the details. Delores now regularly journals and is in what she considers "the perfect" relationship.
Sinthia experiences most of her Aha moments after meditation. She finds that when she takes herself to a place and lets go of the problem and the pressure of the problem, that she is able to open herself up to the myriad of potential solutions. In fact she says that when she brings a problem with her to meditation, there are always multiple solutions to her problem when she is ready to address it. But often, Sinthia finds that a single solution seems to materialize for her with such unwavering clarity that she always knows that it is her ideal solution. Sinthia uses various types of meditations depending on her mood, but says that she writes down what she experiences as soon as her sessions are over using her five senses sight, smell, taste, hear, and touch as a guide. She says that those journal entries always serve as her passage back into the moment, if and when she needs it to.
Like Sinthia, many have learned the value of the light bulb moment. They serve as evidence to how powerful the individual is. They create a positive atmosphere in which an individual can embrace the fact that they are the creator of their own destiny, and remain in the place of creation. When the atmosphere is duplicated it can serve as a short-cut back to that ideal time and place where reception is already amped up for optimum results.
As masters of creating our own reality, wouldn't it be cool to learn how to tune in to achieve all that is desired with great ease and little effort? There are many things that work for many people. The key is to find the thing, or things, as there can be more than one, that works for you. Meditation, yoga, reading, writing, journaling and listening to music are all vehicles that delivered others to their light bulb moment destinations. Many have also found that no matter the vehicle, writing it down seems to just solidify and validate the process to the mind.
Aha moments are awesome things. They let us know we're on the right track. They tell us that we've finally removed the obstacles that have been blinding us and keeping us from the next step. Each aha moments brings us that much closer to the goal, result, dream that has been spurring us on. Just think of how much easier it will be to achieve goals if you can put yourself in a place with the proper tools, to be receptive to the ideas that come with great ease. Just relax and let them flow.

Happy Father’s Day!
Happy Father’s Day!
Hi. This is the face behind the voice behind the Skyaak invention. I’m president of Skyaak Enterprises and that is no joke. I figure maybe I will come out of the shadows a bit, seeing as how I really haven’t posted a mug-shot on this blog yet. My life partner, true love and soul mate Sharon took this photo recently.
Here’s the official portrait of Sharon that I painted for her as a courtship gift.
How romantic.
It’s called "Extra-Sensory Portrait".
The deal was, I proposed, if she liked the portrait she could keep it... and if she hated it she could burn it. Very simple, but I felt under a wee bit of pressure. I refused to let her see it until it was completely finished. That’s bad luck, to see your portrait in mid-execution. Her first reaction was,
"I lo-ove it!" The painting hangs in our diningroom 12-13 years later.
Our love-child Ilara is an artist in her own right. She has been deeply artistic in many disciplines all her life. Here she is dipping into a pallette of acrylics:

Tomorrow is Father’s Day. Yay us! So this little glimpse of our family is in celebration of a proud father and husband. And a proud son, obviously.
And finally, here is a great picture of my Dad, Robert Joseph Gaudet.
The picture was taken back in about 1955 or so and shows Dad in the RCAF working as a service technician at the CNE Waterfront in Toronto. He is manually operating an ‘Orenda Mark 2' aircraft engine. He cuts quite a dashing figure, no? So you can see that I come by my fascination of all things aeronautical quite honestly.

We have done this because so many people have told me that they want to find out more about this unique invention, and I feel that the best way to provide this valuable information is through the blogosphere. Blogging is so cool. You get to instantly publish all of your ideas: some good, some fairly lame and some that sizzle. Seeing as how I am a visually-oriented person with a background ( and present) saturated with art training and practice, I really appreciate the fact that I can freely publish any images that I want. Within the bounds of good taste of course.
A while back, I wrote a 12-stanza poem that I originally called "The Inventor’s Creed". This poem was recognized by nearly everyone that read it as a little jewel of inspiration. The thing was written to encourage people ( including myself) who are toiling away in relative obscurity to stick with their ideas and to persevere until it goes from the simple idea phase into full-blown REAL reality. That is the whole driving force behind the Skyaak project in particular, but as it has turned out, the poem has appealed to a very broad cross-section of people that have heard it.
I got so much positive feedback from all my friends, neighbors and loved ones to this simple poem that I decided to take the leap to the next level with it and record a musical version of it with the able assistance of Gene Angers. Gene is a good friend of mine who has a background as a singer/songwriter. He set the piece to music and we changed the name to "I Believe".
Here it is:
I Believe
I believe in the power of creativity
and the power of a Higher Being.
I believe angels all around me
are eager to help me in times of need.
I believe in my own powers of decision
and making up my own mind.
I believe in perseverance
and not taking ‘no’ for an answer.
I believe in my ideas
and I will not be discouraged by cynics.
I believe in friends
who believe in me.
I believe in the stroke of genius
and the ‘aha!’ experience.
I believe in my heroes
and emulate their courage in my life.
I believe I can defy the odds
and change the world.
I believe I can make a difference
with my own two hands.
I believe that if I believe
I give myself permission
to be happy in my heart
and strong in my spirit!
I believe in reaching out to the world
by expressing myself
In whatever medium
I freely choose.
I believe I can launch my ideas
with dedication and commitment.

Zenon Dragan on Skyaak
Zenon Dragan, president of the Canada-based world-famous flying toy company Draganfly Innovations Inc. has built and flown the Skyaak Model 3 and says, "Skyaak is an inexpensive model that’s fun to build and fly, but challenging to master. I like the looks and aesthetic of it. Everybody that has seen finds it very intriguing and unusual. Good clean fun!"

I went on a photo expedition recently at Revvin’s Roam,
‘Manitou’s Inspirational Cocoon’, here at the
Resort Village of Manitou Beach.
We’re in the process of putting together a brochure...a flyer.
As previously discussed at angelic-encounters.blogspot.com, a group of five of us have been meeting on a regular basis to lay plans for a mutual venue. A place that has a certain vibrational vitality that will suit as a friendly, un-intimidating space with a welcoming spirit. It’s kinda cool, really. We will showcase the CD Single ‘I Believe’ there, as well as feature live Skyaak demonstrations. We’re baking cookies in our groovy Solar Oven. ( Look Ma, no plug! ) More on this later.
I was working on the final edit of the afore-mentioned brochure when I noticed a ‘weird light’ in one of the pictures. As I zoomed in on it, it looked stranger and stranger. Incidentally, I had my camera set on ‘macro’ so the definition is quite good. When I adjusted the original photo to a higher resolution, I was rewarded with a very clear image of a ‘shaft of light’ that travels into the picture from the right-hand side. It can be seen piercing through the space in between two slender trees, and then it focuses on a lone tree trunk. Where the ‘shaft of light’ concentrates on the lone tree trunk, it can be clearly seen to intensify in luminosity.
This could all be easily explained away as merely a pretty picture of a thin ray of sunlight. That was what I naturally thought it was before I took a more careful look. When you look at the wooden lawn chair to the left-hand side of the picture, you’ll see the left face of it bathed in sunlight, the right side in lavender shadow. The edge of the rock-lined pool is also washed in bright sunlight. In both instances, you can plainly see from which direction the sun shines. The light source is from the left, shining to the right.
The ‘shaft of light’ cannot be explained as a ray of sunshine, because it inconveniently shines into the face of the sun. From another source. Maybe a mirror? Don’t think so, the trajectory doesn’t figure. The light is coming from about a 45 degree pitch. It could be a projected light of some sort, or else a ‘stand-alone’ phenomenon, that exists more or less solely inside the flukey picture. I’m just happy that I even took a second look at this curiosity.
I wonder what caused this weird errant strand of light hovering where it ought not to be. I am posting a clearer, larger zoom so you can see for yourself. This photo is not retouched. Things that make you go hmm...
Now that I have seen the RODS DVD, my perception is maybe a bit heightened to the visual cues? I'm not sure if I would have even noticed this anomoly if it weren't for the RODS DVD. It's like I have learned a new visual language that my mind can comprehend where before my exposure to the RODS DVD, this would have remained luking invisible to my eye's understanding.

Seeing as how Skyaak has asserted itself in the center of my artistic life and expression, it’s only fitting that I appreciate the rich potential of the image to draw upon its unique visual nature and conceptual base. I am enjoying this creative journey as something beyond time and space, and revel in the reality that I can share the images and ideas instantly with a potentially world-wide audience. Personally, I don’t give a hoot if this body of thought and work ever reaches the mainstream of so-called critical acclaim. It just doesn’t matter! I’m generating a certain amount of steadily increasing recognition within certain intelligent and receptive circles that totally ‘bakes my cake’.
Besides, I have a full-time day-job that provides all the financial stability that we need to do just fine, thank you very much. So I get to treat the Skyaak project with a certain detached air of pure creative bliss. How cool is that? Put it this way... I will never EVER sacrifice the depth of integrity that I firmly believe is central to the project. I am innocent of ulterior motives. I’m doing this strictly for the intellectual and spiritual stimulation. And as a rather huge bonus, I am making steady amazing progress connecting up with world-wide enthusiasts in the scientific and design communities. The Skyaak project has a certain purity at its heart and soul that will remain non-negotiable. Bearing this in mind, I will carry on with my explorations of the methodology of ‘Art that Flies’, and the concept of ‘Where Art meets Science’. Not only do I get a charge out of creating an ongoing series of images based on the Skyaak design, I also more importantly continue to develop the design rationale for the actual flying device. It’s not much of a stretch to see that there are some obvious metaphors at work here.
It’s only a matter of time before my intuition leads me to the critically important connections that will further enrich and crystalize the project. As well, I am zeroing in on the skill-sets that I will soon implement to allow me to reach a very wide audience outside of the traditional ‘gallery’ and beyond the scope of the ‘art critics’. I sure won’t hold my breath waiting for academic art critics to wrap their heads around what I’m doing. I just don’t care. In this instance, I get to be the snob. Ha ha, I beat them to the punch!

Skyaak heading to Italy
Skyaak is heading to Italy!
The concept to package the flat-manufactured components in a ship-able box makes eminently good sense in a situation like this. Patrizio Bronzi, of DNA/Hummingbird fame, has very graciously agreed to take a first-hand look at the Skyaak Model 3, and has requested that I send him one to his development lab in Italy. He is going to investigate getting Skyaak into a wind-tunnel through a friend of his who is an aeronautical engineer. If this idea materializes, I am sure we will have some very interesting and informative data that will allow us to proceed with more advanced prototype development. This is all good.
Here's what the package looks like that I will be shipping off to Italy:

The Skyaak Model 3 package weighs about 660 grams. It is 9 inches wide, 24 inches high and 1.5 inches deep. Like an oversized chocolate-box.

Skyaak-ing with Patrizio Bronzi

Thank you very much for your appreciation about my work. I am honored you posted my photos on that blog too.
DNA is the result of the work of more than two years, tons of problems was to be solved.
Carter helped me so much than I can call him a friend.
DNA flown on april 25. It is not an easy plane to control; it is "nervous and sensitive" (after all it is an aerobatic plane), so I’ll need a new computerized RC transmitting set for next tests.
I get a glance at your www.skyaak.blogspot.com and at the impressive futuristic prototypes (they seem coming form a Star Wars movie), but they are somewhat different from Hummingbird (HB) configuration. There is something I cannot understand: the diameter of the duct at the leading edge in HB (could I call it "inlet area"?) is larger than that of the trailing edge (outlet area), in Skyaak it is the contrary.
Air speed inside HB duct, when it move in the air, became greater then the outside air speed. This increase the trust of the props (pic1). Furthermore when HB fly with a positive incidence the the airfoil in the upper half of the duct has a greater incidence than the lower airfoil, that increase the lift of the plane. I think these two situation induce an opposite moment (torque?) in the two configurations (pic2). Your Skyaak model seems to have some holes in the annular surfaces, that maybe allow the air to go into the duct to compensate the pressure (?), but I don't think it can generate a positive vortex.
This is fantasy, I don’t know what happens in the real world. I have linked an aeronautic engineer who offered me to test DNA in the wind-tunnel of the university where he works, I hope to do it on summer.
I have some doubt about the efficiency of the HB configuration. For example I have tested the leading edge flux of the duct by means of tufts so I observed a separation bubble that increase the drag. Another doubt concerns the lift generated by the airfoil. In fact the aerodynamic theory says that the lift is generated by the different speeds of the flow: greater on the upper surface in respect to the lower surface. But what happens when the air is accelerated by the props inside the duct? The speed on the lower surface becomes greater than that on the upper surface.. HB should not fly!
I think something is wrong (and maybe it is me, but after all it is only toys matter.)
Michael, I’d like to know the aerodynamic specifications (CG position, wing load, efficience, Rn, airfoil etc..) of your Skyaak if it is possible, so I could study this configuration.

The fact is that I don’t like to spend many time in front of a PC monitor!
I have a Samsung SyncMaster 740N flat screen monitor. Very easy on the eyes. Low glare. Have you tried something like that?
The Skyaak configuration exhibits super-stability in flight. Skyaak has a natural tendency to rotate swiftly on its axis in flight because the three inner struts act as agitators and also propellers. It is this spinning motion in concert with the ring-wing configuration that creates the theoretical vortex drive. Spinning on its axis helps to stabilize an already stable design.
Of course, rotation induces gyroscopic forces that make the system stable. On the contrary it should induces a precession* moment, did you observe that? It‘d be eliminate making the rear ring wing turning on the contrary respect the forering-wing (don’t smile, I’d like to read your Italian!), I'm not laughing, sir. but wigs shold turn freely respect the main hub...In any case, the possibility of free-turning is necessary on a RC model (or on a full scale plane).
* 'precession' : "the slow movement of the axis of a spinning body around another axis"
We have discussed a tubular bearing that would permit the ring-wing to spin freely on the shaft. Maybe powered by an electro-magnetic turbine, that would spin at very high RPMs. I imagine both the front and rear wing could spin, depending on desired trajectory, etc. Perhaps the rear ring-wing could be employed with a push-prop at take-off, while the front pull-prop could be used intermittently to keep the nose up. Mix and match thrusters.
When the Skyaak ring-wing spins rapidly on its axis in flight, it appears to self-generate an energetic path, or vortex, that it rides along on. The trajectory is determined by speed. At very fast scale-speed ( I can spin an 18" model in a 34' orbit in about 1 second. Scaled up to an 18' long model translates to approximately 5000 MPH. )
We must take the Reynolds number into consideration, not geometrical proportions.
Excerpt from Wikapedia entry on the 'Reynolds number':
"Laminar flow occurs at low Reynolds numbers, where viscous forces are dominant, and is characterized by smooth, constant fluid motion, while turbulent flow, on the other hand, occurs at high Reynolds numbers and is dominated by inertial forces, producing random eddies, vortices and other flow fluctuations. The transition between laminar and turbulent flow is often indicated by a critical Reynolds number (Recrit), which depends on the exact flow configuration and must be determined experimentally. Within a certain range around this point there is a region of gradual transition where the flow is neither fully laminar nor fully turbulent, and predictions of fluid behaviour can be difficult."
Patrizio, it would appear that the way to arrive at the Reynolds number for Skyaak would require wind-tunnel testing, or do you have the technology to get the correct reading experimentally with a working prototype? I anticipate that the Reynolds number will be low, as the trajectory tends to be smooth and flowing.
The Skyaak configuration behaves itself very well when tether-flown. It cuts a very crisp trajectory that is highly maneuverable on the tether, as I believe I explained earlier. The CG is critical with the tether flight. A fraction of an inch off the CG renders it into a dumb stick, whereas the precise CG snaps it to attention. Free-spinning props at the nose and rear spin furiously in tether flight, and seem to enhance the stability even further!
Is the tether-flown acrobatic-kite like?
Yes. Except it must travel forward, and can be greatly accelerated with crisp, flowing trajectory. It seems to gain weight and vitality when it is flown on a pivoting tether. I souped up a retractable dog-leash by winding the internal spring up tighter. With this and a fishing leader at the anchorage, I get incredible results. Amazing speed and agility with an 18" model!
The position of the CG is not the same of the tether anchorage.
The tether anchorage is a bit ahead on the shaft of the CG.
I am curious to see it flying
I will try out the tether on a 'Mykro-Skyaak', that is only 14" in length. See it on the blog. If I get good results, I will send you one. If not, I can certainly hand-build a crude 18" model. It won't be laser-cut, but will certainly perform well.
I would be fascinated to get Skyaak Model 3 and the Mykro-Skyaak into a wind-tunnel for analysis. What, if any, are costs involved in this? Can we just do it for fun? To advance the design?
I’ll ask my friend what are the costs for a wind tunnel test, that possibility depend on the Director of the University

I have built 300+ rough working prototypes over 5 years to figure out the exact correct proportions of ring-wing pitch and scale vs the overall length vs the ballast weight(s). I was excited to discover that the aerodynamic performance of Model 3 was enhanced big time with the addition of a second ballast exactly behind the CG, where the cockpit would be. The Model 3 likes weight on board. Must have it! The 2 ballast weights further enhance the stability of the trajectory when Skyaak is successfully hand-launched. It is very exciting and promising!
Maybe it is wing load matter.
I would be happy to send you a sample unit if you wish so you can build it and fly it yourself.

I anticipate that the Reynolds number will be low, as the trajectory tends to be smooth and flowing.
The Skyaak configuration behaves itself very well when tether-flown. It cuts a very crisp trajectory that is highly maneuverable on the tether, as I believe I explained earlier. The CG is critical with the tether flight. A fraction of an inch off the CG renders it into a dumb stick, whereas the precise CG snaps it to attention. Free-spinning props at the nose and rear spin furiously in tether flight, and seem to enhance the stability even further!
Is the tether-flown acrobatic-kite like?
Yes. Except it must travel forward, and can be greatly accelerated with crisp, flowing trajectory. It seems to gain weight and vitality when it is flown on a pivoting tether. I souped up a retractable dog-leash by winding the internal spring up tighter. With this and a fishing leader at the anchorage, I get incredible results. Amazing speed and agility with an 18" model!
The position of the CG is not the same of the tether anchorage.
The tether anchorage is a bit ahead on the shaft of the CG.
I am curious to see it flying
I will try out the tether on a 'Mykro-Skyaak', that is only 14" in length. See it on the blog. If I get good results, I will send you one. If not, I can certainly hand-build a crude 18" model. It won't be laser-cut, but will certainly perform well.
I would be fascinated to get Skyaak Model 3 and the Mykro-Skyaak into a wind-tunnel for analysis. What, if any, are costs involved in this? Can we just do it for fun? To advance the design?

Maybe the rest of the configuration outside of the annular wing is what creates much of the lift, and the HB annular ducted prop provides thrust more than lift?
I think something is wrong (and maybe it is me, but after all it is only toys matter.)
I have built 300+ rough working prototypes over 5 years to figure out the exact correct proportions of ring-wing pitch and scale vs the overall length vs the ballast weight(s). I was excited to discover that the aerodynamic performance of Model 3 was enhanced big time with the addition of a second ballast exactly behind the CG, where the cockpit would be. The Model 3 likes weight on board. Must have it! The 2 ballast weights further enhance the stability of the trajectory when Skyaak is successfully hand-launched. It is very exciting and promising!
Maybe it is wing load matter.
I would be happy to send you a sample unit if you wish so you can build it and fly it yourself.

As a kid, Leonardo was always my greatest hero and creative influence. His great work, thoughts and super-creative mind still exerts a huge influence on my thinking to this day. The most important lesson I have learned from Leonardo is to not be afraid to try something different, even if one knows fully well that certain ideas will not be easy to flesh out. Conditions have to be just right... lots of different things must coincide... and there must be a receptive, fertile mind-set that is willing to persevere in spite of the rather wearisome fact that a lot of people and institutions tend to prefer to do things the way they've always been done. Change is difficult to enact sometimes, because a LOT of inertia must be overcome. Ever try to get a huge boulder moving up hill? Ya gotta have some heavy-duty equipment to play with! So bring on the front-end loader!

RODS: Mysterious Objects Among Us!
A few weeks ago I asked my friend Tony Sorensen if he had ever come across a biological entity that in any way resembled the Skyaak configuration. I was thinking that most other aeronautical designs borrow from nature. For example, ‘winglets’ on the tips of conventional aircraft wings mimic ‘winglets’ on the tips of most birds. Their function is to minimize the vortices that flow outwards off the wingtips, thus increasing aerodynamic efficiency. The airfoil itself may be observed as a salient feature of the bird-wing physiology.
I was thinking that there must be a creature that used a tube-like or conical surface as a stable means of transit. I guess the squid might be an example of this, except of course in this instance the tube is enclosed. As usual, Tony came through with a whopper of a suggestion. He asked me if I’d ever heard of ‘Rods’. Knowing he didn’t mean rods as in rods ... the archaic form of measurement... rods and cubits... I said, "No. Do tell."
Tony then explained the extraordinary story of Jose Escamilla, who is a ‘base jumper’ with high-speed video camera. Mr. Escamilla has a very interesting hobby. He likes to dive off of very tall earth-bound objects; as in cliffs, with a parachute and a camera. While shooting film in free-fall mode, Mr. Escamilla started to notice strange anomalies flying by in the camera’s field of vision. He proceeded to study these things and to compare them with other flying objects, such as birds and insects. To summarize, he and a formidable team of scientists and other interested parties from all over the world sifted through piles of raw footage and in their studies a certain pattern began to reveal itself.
They discovered that there are a strange objects that appear to be not only sentient but also extremely agile and responsive to their environment flying at speeds varying from that of a bird to extremely high speeds. Invisible to the naked eye!
Tony and I visited the web-page and I went ahead and ordered a copy of the stunning DVD. I was not disappointed! The Rod phenomenon is absolutely mesmerizing.
The reason Tony brought them up in our conversation was that Rods appear to be flying corkscrews. Skyaak flies best when it spins rapidly on its axis. A flying corkscrew.

I e-mailed Patrizio Bronzi of DNA fame, and he has sent along very informative diagrams that compare the aeronautical design of the Skyaak configuration with that of Philip Carter's "Hummingbird". ( Please refer to the recent blog entry "The Amazing Hummingbird" for photos of the beautiful RC Hummingbird that Philip and Patrizio have built and successfully flown) For the time being, proprietary concerns prohibit me from commenting on the diagrams other than to say how much I appreciate the fascinating technical input from Patrizio Bronzi.
